The aluminum sheet is offset from the wall by a 3/4" thick wooden frame which is attached to the back. While my daughter (age 3 at the time) was blowing bubbles out over the lake, I decided to experiment with taking photos of the bubbles. I was amazed to find out that when the wind is just right and the water is calm enough, the bubbles will glide right across the surface like they are skiing.
